Insulation

The walls and the ceiling

The construction system can accommodate any type of loose insulation material. With a lambda coefficient ranging from 0.038 to 0.044 depending on the brand, the cellulose wadding competes with the best performing insulation. A wall of 30 cm obtains a thermal resistance of R = 7.9 and a phase shift of 12 h. A density of 60 to 70 kg per cubic meter prevents the settlement of the material over time. The thickness of the walls is adjustable as needed and automatically results in a gain in thermal performance for a cost of implementation almost identical.

In addition to being in bulk, cellulose wadding requires very little gray energy (energy produced by fossil fuels) in its manufacturing process since 85 % of the material comes from the recycled newspapers. Thus, its carbon footprint is very low, one of the least within the insulation materials. Some brands even promote collection of newspapers near the production sites.

Briefly, cellulose wadding is offering the best price / performance ratio within the market of insulation.

By allowing the use of large thicknesses of insulation, the construction model offers thermal resistance largely in line with RT 2012. Unlike other building systems, it is not necessary to isolate the building by complements; neither from outside nor from inside. Consequently, the cost related to the insulation is considerably reduced. Therefore, the construction of a passive house is possible with affordable price.

The floor

On concrete slab

The insulation of the soil is ensured by its thickness which is defined by the thermal study. The material used can be based on polyurethane, polystyrene or bio-sourced cork type. The construction system proposes to implement it before the installation of the internal partitions. This method provides the continuity of the insulating material until these internal partitions. The thermal bridging is thus effectively treated.

On screw piles or concrete pads

In the case where the structure is elevated above the ground level, the insulation used in the walls and the ceiling continues to run without interruption on the floor. The thermal cover is optimal.

State of Art Concept

This construction system allows to implement thermal bridging free wooden structure which ensures the maximum thermal insulation efficiency.

High Thermal Performance

The energy performance of this construction system is validated by an engineering office as passive house standard.
